After coming to Japan, this is the first TV drama series I watched on video. It introduced me to the notion that heroes can die. As I have since learned, Japanese writers are not afraid to have main characters die off. It was a refresshing relief to all the happy endings that American TV seems to require to please viewers. It is also a great way to get an early look at some of today's biggest stars. Kimutaku certainly was looking pretty young. The theme song, "TRUE LOVE" by Fumi Fujiya, stuck in my heart and has been there ever since. If your looking for one of the earlier series to start your introduction to Japanese TV dramas, this is a good place to start. After that try, Doku, Seishonen, Minami-kun no Koibito, Shichigatsu Nanoka Hare, Kamisama mo Sukoshi Dake (don't miss this one!), Virgin Road, and anything else starring Wakui Emi. The list goes on...
